Study Degradation of 4-(2-Pyridylazo)Resorcinol Dye in Circulating Fludized Bed Photo Reactor Using ZnO Nanoparticles
Authors
Abstract:
Background & Aims of the Study: In this study, 4-(2-pyridylazo) resorcinol (PAR) as model azo dye was used. In spectroscopic measurements and studies of PAR reagent as a ligand are used to formation a complex with toxic metals. So, removal and degradation these compounds of wastewaters are necessary. The aim of this study is the degradation of PAR from aqueous solutions in circulating fludized bed photo reactor (CFBPR) using ZnO powder. The UV/O2 system was used for dye degradation. Materials & Methods: ZnO powder used a catalyst for the degradation of dye in aqueous solution. ZnO powder has been characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The effect of operational parameters such as: pH, catalyst dosage and temperature were studied. The effect of UV irradiation, UV/O2 and UV/O2/ZnO on photocatalytic degradation of PAR were studied. The reaction kinetic was studied. The optimum conditions were determined using design of experimental based one factor at the time (OFAT) method. Results: The optimum conditions for this reaction were obtained at pH=10, catalyst dosage=20 mg/L, and temperature=40°C. The pseudo first order reaction with rate constant (k=0.0105 min−1) in T=40°C was observed for the photocatalytic degradation of PAR. Activation energy (Ea) for the degradation of PAR was obtained as 48.12 (kJ/mol). These experiments demonstrated that UV/O2 and ZnO catalyst were needed for the effective degradation of dye. Conclusions: The results showed that the photocatalytic process can be suitable to degradation PAR dye from aqueous solutions using ZnO catalyst.

Two Phase Modeling of Char Combustion in a Circulating Fluidized Bed Reactor Using ASPEN PLUS
In this paper, combustion of char in the riser of circulating fluidized bed was modeled using ASPEN PLUS. Since physical and chemical phenomena are involved in the process, the model integrates the two-phase hydrodynamic sub-model with the reaction sub-model derived from the literature. In the proposed model, the fluidized bed is divided into several sections and the behavior of each section wa...

In this study, we have reported the green synthesis magnesium ferrite using tragacanth gel by the sol-gel method without using any organic chemicals. The sample was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the fo...
full textThin wetted film cylindrical flow photo reactor for the degradation of Procion blue H-B dye over TiO2 and ZnO.
A thin wetted film cylindrical flow reactor was fabricated for photocatalytic oxidation of Procion blue H-B dye in textile washwater with the suspensions of TiO2 and ZnO. The disappearance of colour and organic reduction were studied in terms of the removal of colour and chemical oxygen demand (COD). Operating parameters such as effect of pH, UV irradiation with and without catalyst, initial co...
full textTextile Dye Removal Using Photocatalytic Cascade Disk Reactor Coated by ZnO Nanoparticles
Dye effluents with low BOD/COD ratio and varied chemical structures are usually very recalcitrant to microbial degradation. Therefore, different process was used for the treatment of dye effluent. Heterogeneous photocatalyst process has been widely used as leading green technology for dye removal. The process utilizes a semiconductor photocatalyst (such as TiO2 or ZnO) and UV light to oxidize t...

In this work firstly ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized via a simple precipitation method. At the second step titanium dioxide and silicon dioxide shell were synthesized on the core. For preparation ZnO-TiO2-SiO2 the sol product was calcinated at 500 ºC for 2h. Properties of the product were examined by X-raydiffraction pattern (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform inf...
